“Let’s pray before our meal” is the maiden attempt of Mr. Joginder Singh Mann, to describe the excitement and the spirit of competitiveness among the students in boarding schools and also between boarding schools. As an author and also as a student of one of the most revered institution of the nation, Mr. Mann chose this wonderfully exciting and fiercely competitive subject, to tear away the cobwebs of perception which many amongst us weave in our minds.

Mr. Joginder Singh Mann began the spring of his life in one of the most fertile educational acres of the country – Birla Public School, Pilani. As one of the most illustrious students of this hallowed institution, Mr. Mann showed exemplary leadership qualities and led the school in various capacities beginning as a School Prefect. Apart from being an accomplished rider, he is also a brown belt in karate (2 Dan). Besides these he was also the school Band Leader, Parade Commander of BPS NCC and a member of the school swimming team. As a champion swimmer, he brought pride to his teammates and established BPS as a formidable foe to peer institutions in the pool.

He passed out of this institution and enrolled himself in the English (Hons) class of Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. While pursuing his academics diligently, he also contested in the college elections and in this case too his leadership and popularity brought him the post of General Secretary of the college students union. While pursuing his Honours, he also pursued his love with the pool by participating in the inter college swimming competitions. And off the pool, he was the Captain of the Kirori Mal college football team.

Passing out with flying colours, Mr. Mann left Delhi in choice of a career and landed up in one of the finest seats of hospitality – The Taj Group of Hotels in Mumbai. Quickly learning the nuances of our legendary Indian hospitality, he served at various managerial levels to the utmost satisfaction of his superiors and guests alike. It is this stint and experience at The Taj, which he carried to the institution he founded and is today the largest co-ed residential school in Delhi – The Mann School.

Today, as the Chairman of The Mann School Mr. Mann employs his time between his students, his hobbies and his family. Being an outdoors person, he is a keen trekker and a mountaineer (He completed his mountaineering course from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi.) he usually embarks on arduous treks to the mountains along with his friends. Not only does he trek, but he also organizes such treks as the President of VINOBA (Vidya Niketan Old Boys Association).

As a loving husband and a beloved father, Mr. Mann spends his time with his family consisting of his wife – Sarita and their two children – Gaurav and Ashrika. And in quiet evenings, when his family sits besides him, he sits at the piano trying to compose a song to dedicate to his music teacher in BPS, Pilani.
